Thirty-five labourers got trapped in a mine when water from River Damodar entered the mine.

West Bengal: Thirty-five labourers have been trapped in a coal mine in Purulia, for the past four days. The locals are trying to rescue them.

The labourers were trapped when water from River Damodar entered into the mine. At the time the labourers were extracting coal illegally for the coal mafia.

Mines here were shut down in 1975 after they were declared hazardous. Since then the coal mafia has been using poor labourers for illegal mining.

Officials say the army or CISF maybe brought in for rescue work if necessary.
