BRS MP Prabhakar Reddy Stabbed While Campaigning in Poll-bound Telangana; Out of Danger
Prabhakar Reddy was attacked with a knife by a person during election campaign in Surampalli village of Daultabad mandal of Siddipet district

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP Prabhakar Reddy was stabbed while he was campaigning in poll-bound Telangana, police said on Monday. Cops said that the MP received injuries in his stomach but is out of danger.

The BRS MP from the Medak Lok Sabha constituency is the party’s candidate from the Dubbak assembly constituency for the upcoming Telangana assembly elections. Reddy was attacked with a knife by a person during the election campaign in Surampalli village of Daultabad mandal of Siddipet district. He was shifted to Gajwel Area Hospital and later referred to Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad for better treatment.

In videos doing the round on social media, the MP, surrounded by his team, can be seen keeping a hand on the wound on his stomach.

“MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy is safe. The incident took place in Surampally village of the Daulatabad mandal. He has been shifted to Gajwel. The alleged accused is in custody, we are investigating the matter,” N Swetha, Siddipet Commissioner, said.

As part of the poll campaign, the BRS MP visited a pastor’s family in the morning in Surampalli village. After he came out of the house of the pastor, a person in the guise of a BRS activist came close to him, pretended to shake hands with the MP and then took the knife from his pocket and stabbed Reddy in his abdomen.

BRS activists immediately caught the accused and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The accused was identified as Dattani Raju, a native of Chepyal village under the Dubbak constituency. Raju works for a YouTube channel.

Siddipet CP Swetha said that the accused is a “BJP sympathizer” suffering from family problems who committed the crime in an inebriated condition.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock over the incident and enquired about the treatment being given to the MP.

Speaking in a public meeting Banswada, the CM said that the opposition parties are unable to digest his wave among the people and trying to adopt violent politics.

Voting for the assembly polls in Telangana is scheduled to take place in a single phase on November 30, while counting of votes and declaration of results for the state is slated for December 3, along with Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
