Legendary Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard recently responded to Jurgen Klopp leaving the Reds at the end of the season. As per several media outlets, the former England international shared a post from Liverpool FC along with a simple red heart emoji on Instagram. The post he shared read, “Jurgen Klopp has announced his decision to step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the current season.” The simple gesture from the player-turned-coach has now caught the attention of several fans who want Gerrard to succeed Klopp at Anfield. The Englishman is widely considered to be the ideal replacement for the German coach by both fans and pundits.
One of the finest midfielders ever to represent Liverpool, Steven Gerrard pursued a managerial role since retiring as a professional footballer. He began his journey as a manager by taking charge of the Liverpool U-18, and U-19 squads from 2017 to 2018. Soon Gerrard moved to the Scottish League, taking charge of the Rangers. In his third season, the ex-Liverpool player led one of the most dominant campaigns in the Scottish League’s history to guide Rangers to their first title in a decade. His team also managed to remain unbeaten throughout that campaign.
In 2021, Steven Gerrard returned to the Premier League as the manager of Aston Villa. This time he was unable to make an impact and was released after just 11 months in charge.
In 2021, as per ESPN, this is what Jurgen Klopp had told during a press conference about Steven Gerrard potentially managing Liverpool one day, “I think that Stevie is doing really well and he’s very young from a manager’s point of view so it’s just when is the right moment for him to take the job. Yes, I believe it will definitely happen and good for everyone.”
Steven Gerrard made his first team debut for Liverpool in 1998 and the rest is history. Gerrard spearheaded one of Liverpool’s most glorious eras in the early 2000s. He played a total of 710 games for the club having scored 186 times and providing 157 assists for the Merseyside-based outfit. He won 11 trophies with Liverpool including the 2005 UEFA Champions League.
