Indian-American actor Sendhil Ramamurthy worked with Vidya Balan and Pratik Gandhi in the recently released Do Aur Do Pyaar. Sendhil played the role of Vikram, the man with whom Vidya’s character Kavya was cheating on her husband. Their chemistry set the screen on fire. However, Sendhil admitted he was unsure of how Vidya would be before they met. The actor, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, confessed he imagined her as someone who is a ‘diva’ or probably a ‘difficult’ person on sets.
“I had no idea on what to expect coming in because, you know, she’s Vidya Balan. Is she going to be a diva, is she going to be a difficult working person? I didn’t know what to expect so I came in there ready for anything. I came in prepared for the worst," Sendhil admitted. But Sendhil’s worst fears vanished when he met Vidya. He recalled the actress greeted him with a warm hug which shooed away his worries.
“We met and she gave me this big hug and felt this is going to be okay and this is going to be great. I loved working with her. We keep talking and texting and we want to find something else that we could do together," he said, adding that she is ‘an extraordinary actress.’
Sendhil and Vidya share numerous intimate moments that show the arc and depth of their relationship. However, for Sendhil, his favourite scene of the two characters together is the opening scene. “My favourite scene with Vidya was the first scene, the opening scene in the Irani cafe. That was one of my favourite scenes to do," he said.
“That kind of light, flirtatious, kind of loving, also in my head, it was the misdirect for the audience. You think this (Sendhil and Vidya) is the couple, these guys are the ones that are married. Then obviously a few minutes later, the other shoe drops and you find out about the affair. That was definitely my favourite scene because what Vidya and I did was we started the scene before the camera started to roll. I just started talking to her as Vikram and she just talked back to me as Kavya and we were talking for a few minutes before the camera went," he explained.
The Never Have I Ever star added, “It was all improvised and then we made our way into the scene. That was when I was like, okay, I have got somebody that I can really play with now. I knew at that moment that Vidya and I are going to have a blast on this."
Besides Sendhil, Vidya and Pratik, Do Aur Do Pyaar also stars Ileana D’Cruz in a crucial role. The film is directed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta and it has received positive reviews from critics as well as the audience.
