In February this year, Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal announced that they’re expecting their first baby together. As per latest reports, the actress is entering her third trimester and is all set to give birth in July. For the unversed, the duo met on the sets of Fukrey and soon, love blossomed between the two. In 2020, they got married under the Special Marriage Act and then celebrated their union in 2022 in the presence of their close friends.
Needless to say, her latest release Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will always remain a special project for her as it was during its shoot that she tied the knot with Ali. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, she says, “I began shooting for Heeramandi literally 10-15 days before my wedding. And at that time, there was no thought of motherhood in the immediate future on my mind.”
And now with the date of her first child’s arrival being just around the corner, she tells us that she’s still unsure of the kind of parenting she wants to resort to. “I don’t know what kind of upbringing I would want to give my child. It’s like I’m planning to write a novel and somebody already asking me what kind of a story I would want to write. You can’t say these things. This is all very new for me,” the 37-year-old shares.
And so, she would want to wait for the arrival of her child before taking any decisions. “It’s rightly said that it’s the child that gives birth to the mother. So, I guess we’ll figure it all out once our child comes into this world. And I know that it will happen very naturally,” she states.
Richa doesn’t want to think too much about it and would rather let her instincts take precedence. “It’s not a big deal. We’re all mammals. Look at nature! An elephant or a giraffe gives birth standing and then goes back and licks the calf and gets back into the wild, teaching their children how to go about in the wild and how to hunt. I’m not saying that I’m going to teach my child hunting (laughs). But bringing up a child is a very natural process,” she remarks.
However, she’s quick to add that she looks up to her mother and derives inspiration from her about the kind of mother she wants to be. “I’ve watched my mother raise two kids while being a working professional. She delivered my brother and went back to her job of teaching at a college in a month’s time,” she says.
The Love Sonia and Inside Edge actor further adds, “I always saw her working outside and at home and there was no sense of cheerful indifference in that. She actually enjoyed her life teaching us to live by principle and be empowered and I’m going to take my cue from that.”
