Is Jab We Met 2 Happening? Imtiaz Ali BREAKS Silence; Talks About Reuniting With Kareena | Exclusive
Imtiaz Ali says chances of making Jab We Met sequel are slim. He also states why, despite being fond of each other, he and Kareena Kapoor haven't worked again.

Last year, rumours started doing the rounds that Imtiaz Ali is in talks to direct a sequel to his superhit film, Jab We Met (2007) starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan. In fact, in June 2023, Shahid during a chat session on X hinted that he may soon be collaborating with Imtiaz on a film, which piqued the interest of their fans and left many wondering if he meant Jab We Met. However, the filmmaker exclusively told us there was no truth to it.

In a recent conversation with News18 Showsha, Imtiaz hints that a chance to make a sequel of the film is rather slim. He says, “Why have a sequel to Jab We Met (laughs)? If people want to keep relishing the film, they can keep watching the first one! There has to be a story and a reason to make Jab We Met 2. But let’s see if it happens. Never say never!”

In 2020, he made Love Aaj Kal starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan, which was a spiritual sequel to his 2009 film headlined by Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. The second one emerged as a box office dud. Quiz him if that’s the reason why he has reservations about helming a sequel to Jab We Met, and he tells us, “I made Love Aaj Kal the second time and people didn’t love it that much (laughs). Just kidding! That’s not the reason why I don’t want to make a sequel to Jab We Met. But unless there’s a really passionate reason to make a sequel, one shouldn’t.”

However, he’s quick to add that he would have loved to collaborate with Kareena post Jab We Met again. Explaining the reason why the reunion hasn’t happened yet, the Rockstar and Tamasha maker states, “Whenever you work with an actor, there’s also a responsibility to not do anything just for the sake of it. The idea is to reunite only when there’s a better or a completely different project compared to what you’ve done before.”

Jab We Met made for such a fruitful collaboration that Imtiaz wouldn’t want that experience to be ruined by taking a middling script to her just to keep their association continued. “Kareena and I are so fond of working with each other but we’ve never had the chance to work again till date because there was nothing different and unique enough or better than what we’ve done before,” he opines.

Imtiaz, who’s currently riding high on the super success of his latest outing Amar Singh Chamkila, further continues, “It has to be something interesting, otherwise, it’s useless. We don’t want to dull the memory of Jab We Met. If you’ve had a great experience working with an actor, the next experience should also be good, otherwise there’s no point. I look at it that way.”
