'It Was a Different Joe Root': Michael Vaughan Urges English Batters to Emulate Root at Dharamshala
Vaughan suggested skipper Ben Stokes and veteran batsman Jonny Bairstow look to Root and model their innings in the final game with inputs from the 33-year-old.

Team India hold an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match Test series against England heading into the fifth and final game at Dharamshala on the 7th of March.

England will hope to pick up a victory in the final game of the tour to salvage some pride after losing three games on the trot after winning the opening game at Hyderabad.

Ahead of the closing game, former England player Michael Vaughan urged the English batting to emulate Joe Root’s innings at Ranchi, where he got a ton.

“I hope what England don’t do is – that they say, ‘we should have gone harder’. I would disagree with that, I would say that England need to play smarter at times,” he started.

He added that Root was erring on the side of proper technicality to get his ton that propelled England beyond 300 in the game.

“You look at Joe Root’s innings, he was knocking it around, playing technically correct, obviously he has got boundary options,” the former English batter said.

Root produced a crucial ton in the first innings at Ranchi after a string of poor performances in the initial three Tests.

“I hope that the rest of the England batters sit with him or advice and ask him ‘what is it that you did in Ranchi that you did not do in the last 3 Test matches’ because it was a different Joe Root,” he emphasised.

Vaughan suggested skipper Ben Stokes and veteran batsman Jonny Bairstow look to Root and model their innings in the final game with inputs from the 33-year-old.

“This was a different Joe Root in Ranchi. He did not play the fancy shots like he did in the previous few weeks. I hope that Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes take a leaf out of Joe Root’s book,” the former player said.

He added that the batters need to adjust their innings to fit the longest format of the game.

“You cannot play in one gear in Test cricket. You have to play the situation and that’s why Test cricket is the best format,” concluded the former batter.
