New Delhi: Delhi government on Tuesday reduced petrol and diesel prices by 67 paise and 22 paise respectively.
The reduction was effected by slashing Value Added Tax (VAT) on the increased amount, Delhi Finance Minister A K Walia said after a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
"We have done whatever we could do to give relief to Delhiites from the hike in fuel prices. We will not be charging any VAT on the increased amount," Walia said.
At present the price of petrol in the Capital is Rs 47.51 per litre and diesel costs Rs 32.47 per litre.
After implementation of the new rates, petrol will cost Rs 46.84 per litre and diesel will be available for Rs 32.25 per litre.
Talking about when the new prices will be applicable, Walia said it should be done within a week.
"The Delhi government would be forgoing a revenue of Rs 102 crore by this move," he added.
There was no scope of change in the price of CNG as Delhi government did not charge any tax on CNG. The price of the gas had also increased by Rs 1.80 per kg from midnight June 5.
