Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has set a new standard in eco-friendly logistics by achieving over 2 million vehicle dispatches via railways.

According to the official Press Release, this milestone solidifies Maruti Suzuki as India’s pioneer in green automotive transportation.

From just 65,700 units in FY 2014-15 to 447,750 units in FY 2023-24, Maruti Suzuki has significantly increased its use of railways for vehicle transport. This move not only reduces congestion but also enhances safety and energy efficiency compared to road transport. Presently, the company serves more than 450 cities across 20 destinations through Indian railways.

Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, highlighted their decade-long commitment to green logistics, stating, “With our production capacity nearly doubling from about 2 million units to 4 million units by FY 2030-31, we plan to augment the use of railways in vehicle dispatches, close to 35 percent over the next 7-8 years. We stand committed to the Government of India’s Net zero emissions target by 2070.”

With plans to nearly double production capacity to 4 million units by FY 2030-31, Maruti Suzuki aims to increase railway dispatches by 35 percent in the next 7-8 years, aligning with India’s Net zero emissions target by 2070.

Earlier this year, under the PM Gati Shakti programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first automobile in-plant railway siding at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, capable of dispatching approximately 300,000 vehicles annually.

Another railway siding is underway at the Manesar facility, reinforcing Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goal #13 on climate action.
