GM Discontinues Sale of Chevy Blazer EV Due To ‘Software Quality Issues’
General Motors has temporarily suspended sales of the all-new Chevy Blazer EV due to a number of software issues with some of the first cars delivered.

Leading automaker General Motors (GM) is currently working to release a fix for software issues that have led to the suspension of sales of its new Chevy Blazer electric vehicle (EV).

“To ensure our customers have a great experience with their vehicle, we are temporarily pausing sales of Blazer EVs. Our team is working quickly to roll out a fix, and owners will be contacted with further information on how to schedule their update. We apologise for the inconvenience,” General Motors said in a statement, as per ET Auto.

The company stated that a limited number of owners of Blazer EVs have encountered some problems with the software. Other than stating that there is a “limited” number of affected vehicles, General Motors did not confirm the exact number.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV RS AWD was acquired by Edmunds, a car-shopping website that aims to make the process of buying a car as simple as possible, for its long-term test fleet. However, the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) has only been at the dealership for two weeks. Following a diagnostic test that revealed 23 fault codes, they reported, “What we got back from the dealer was alarming: the single longest list of major faults we at Edmunds have ever seen on a new car”, ET Auto stated.

The automaker confirmed earlier reports from journalists who had access to review vehicles by telling TechCrunch, an online newspaper focusing on high-tech and startup companies, that owners are having issues with the SUVs’ screens and with charging at DC Fast stations. When a solution is ready, Blazer EV owners will need to take their cars to a dealership for a software update, according to GM, whose engineering teams are “working around the clock” on it.

Additionally, InsideEVs, a website on car reviews, news, and information related to electric vehicles, said that their week-long test ended after 28 hours. After attempting to charge the battery and experiencing a “Service Vehicle Soon” error message, the car’s CarPlay and Android Auto-free infotainment system went blank.

In a follow-up to its initial report, InsideEVs noted that owners of other GM Ultium-powered electric vehicles had been complaining about strange and, thus far, difficult-to-fix problems with their vehicles.

The starting price of the all-electric Blazer SUV AWD RS is slightly more than USD 60,000 (approximately Rs 49 Lakh). It was launched in August 2023.
