WWE Superstar John Cena got a standing ovation despite an underwhelming showing in his match a the WWE Crown Jewel 2023. WWE action returned to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as Riyadh hosted its 10th WWE event in Crown Jewel. The pay-per-view was studded with some top-of-the-line matches, including John Cena’s clash against Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa.

The 16-time champion lost his match in a rather one-sided affair resulting in him being emotional after the fight. While Cena has been the face of the company for more than two decades, this could be a hint that the superstar could soon hang up his boots. However, since his return to the company in September, no announcement has been made regarding Cena’s retirement.

John Cena is currently on a forgettable streak as he conceded another loss in a one-on-one match at an important pay-per-view. The WWE icon has failed to win a one-on-one competition since the Crown Jewel event in 2018. At this year’s edition of the Crown Jewel, Sikoa remained in control of Cena throughout the match. Cena did have his moments in the highly anticipated match but it was quite evident that the wrestler was no longer the superstar that he once used to be.
The soon-to-be WWE Hall of Famer was hit with several Samoan spikes in the match and lost his match via pinfall. Cena then appeared to make a slow walk to the backstage area while looking completely shattered by the defeat. The leader of the Cenation did have the full support of his fans as they rose in support of their player for his contributions to this industry.
John Cena has not been advertised to make future appearances for the rest of the year as of now. He hasn’t been a full-time wrestler for WWE for a while. The wrestler made his last appearance against Austin Theory at Wrestlemania 39 when he lost a United States Championship match. After missing from the scene for several months Cena made his return to WWE on September 1 on an episode of SmackDown. He was also amongst the roster travelling to India for the WWE Superstar Spectacle in India. In that event, Cena teamed up with WWE superstar Seth Rollins to take on the Imperium Ludwig Kaiser and Vinci at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.
Apart from his appearance in India, John Cena has been a part of some off-air SmackDown shows and is expected to stay away from the company as he resumes his stint in Hollywood. There are still doubts regarding his potential appearance on the road to Wrestlemania 40.
