‘Put To Sleep Forever’: Man Pesters Wife To Bring Him To Canada, Kills Her Week After Reaching
Jagpreet Singh, reached Canada only a week earlier to be with his wife Balwinder Kaur and then allegedly stabbed her to death.

Jagpreet Singh, a resident of Punjab’s Ludhiana, allegedly stabbed his wife, identified as Balwinder Kaur (41), in Abbotsford, Canada last week (March 15).

According to a report by the Indian Express, Jagpreet Singh fatally stabbed his wife a week after reaching Canada and then video-called his family to inform them that he stabbed his wife.

The report also said, citing the deceased woman’s parents, that he was pestering her to arrange his travel to Canada, following which he visited Canada a week before the incident.

Rajwinder Kaur, sister of the deceased, while speaking to the newspaper alleged that Jagpreet made a video call to his mother and told her: “I have put her to sleep forever”.

Rajwinder also said that the accused was obsessed with thoughts of reaching Canada and the couple had frequent arguments because Jagpreet was unemployed which contributed to their financial troubles.

Jaspreet Singh, the accused’s younger brother, said the circumstances are still unclear and claimed the couple were a happy couple and had returned from shopping a few hours before the incident.

“After the incident, my brother had called our mother to tell us that he injured his wife by mistake. He was asking for forgiveness. Nothing was intentional,” Singh was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

However, Canada-based CBC News said that Abbotsford police responded to reports of an “assault in progress in a home along Wagner Drive on Friday, March 15, around 10:50 pm”.

The report said that cops found Balwinder Kaur inside the home with life-threatening stab wounds and first responders failed to save her life. “Balwinder Kaur’s husband Jagpreet Singh was charged with second-degree murder in relation to the fatal stabbing. He was arrested on the scene,” CBC News said in its report.

Balwinder and Jagpreet were married in 2000 and have two children – a daughter Harnoorpreet Kaur (22) and a son Gurnoor Singh (18).

Balwinder left for Canada as Harnoorpreet started facing medical issues. Harnoorpreet left for Canada four years ago on a study visa. Her mother left for Canada two years ago and was taking care of all expenses alone, according to sister Rajwinder Kaur.
