Videos of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allegedly running to a bunker during the massive missile attack by Iran late on Tuesday, have gone viral. Many pro-Iran social media handles on X have shared the purported footage, with captions mocking the leader for “fleeing” and “running away” while others have called him “coward” or even “genocidal”.
Sirens rang out and thousands of civilians retreated into bomb shelters when Iranian missiles entered Israeli airspace. The Israeli military confirmed the attack, even as explosions were heard over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, while many onlookers captured videos of projectiles that lit up the night sky. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued warnings for people to “remain alert and precisely follow the Home Front Command’s instructions”.
The viral video of Netanyahu shows him running across hallways, which some social media handles said was a bunker. “Netanyahu runs to bunker after Iranian missile launch,” one of the posts claimed.

One post said: “One of the most memorable scenes from Israel – Netanyahu flees to the bunker!”, while another said: “Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu is running to save his life…How many days he will hide in bunker.”

But, a number of social media users said the purported video is three years old when he was rushing across the corridors of the Knesset, which is the Israeli parliament. Social media platform X also added a review disclaimer to many posts saying: “Misinformation: This video is 3 years old from 14/Dec/2021 when Netanyahu was rushing to vote at Knesset. He had posted it on twitter.”
Here’s a screen grab from Twitter showing “context and review”:

The video from December 2021 was posted from Netanyahu’s official X handle, in which he says: “I am always proud to run for you. It was taken half an hour ago in the Knesset.” (sic)
