Woman Slams Zomato For Mother’s Day Notifications, Internet Reacts
The user criticised Zomato saying that messages like 'Reminder: Call Maa' could be distressing for people who’re grieving the loss of their mothers or for those who are facing problematic relationships with their parents.

E-commerce platforms often roll out unique messages as a part of their marketing campaign to connect to the users, especially during festivals. Recently, people around the globe celebrated Mother’s Day to honour the women in our lives who have nurtured and raised us. However, amid the celebrations, a few messages on the food delivery app Zomato didn’t go down well with some users and sparked debate on social media.

Taking to the microblogging platform X, a user named Sowmya slammed the food delivery app for “interfering in personal lives” because of the Mother’s Day messages being displayed on the app.

In the post, Sowmya highlighted specific messages written on the app, particularly the “Reminder: Call Maa” message. She criticised the app saying that messages like these could be distressing for people who are grieving the loss of their mothers or for those who are facing problematic relationships with their parents. Eventually, she urged Zomato to stop going overboard with celebrations as it might hurt sentiments.

“Hello @zomato, how about you stop with things like “Reminder: call maa”. Some of us are grieving the loss of mums. Others are struggling with poor relationships with parents. Can you stay out of our personal lives? Please do not go overboard with celebrations such as these,” the user wrote.

In another tweet, she dropped a couple of screengrabs depicting types of Mother’s Day messages being displayed on the Zomato app. “Muting notifications doesn’t help. Every part of the app is filled with whatever is being celebrated and it really doesn’t need to be this way,” she wrote.

Soon after she shared the post, it sparked debate on X prompting several reactions from the other users. One of them wrote, “I so agree. Makes me miss my mom terribly.” Another added, “This is actually spot on. There is a fine line between commercializing and intruding.”

A person wrote, “It’s never even about mothers for them. It’s all about marketing. And marketing only.” A user also gave Sowmya a solution. “If you feel offended you can simply uninstall the app,” a person commented. However, a few users came out in support of Zomato. “It’s so easy to trigger people nowadays,” a comment read.

Another remarked, “People like you find in problems anything for no reason, show me your post where you call the name of any brand here that they are telling you to send love/ call their partner on Valentine’s Day.. and when they are single.” “Folks will crib about everything, you might’ve issues but there are many others (probably more than you) who appreciate these gestures,” a comment read.

The post has staked 6,29,000 views since it was shared on X and the numbers are gradually increasing. What’s your take on this?
