The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) left Rinku Singh out of the 15-man squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup on Tuesday, April 30. The multi-nation tournament will be hosted in the West Indies and the USA in June, later this year. Apart from veteran cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, several youngsters have found their place in the team. One of the major exclusions from the squad is 26-year-old Rinku Singh. The explosive batter has been picked as a reserve player along with Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed.

Currently, Rinku Singh is involved in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing two-time champions, Kolkata Knight Riders. He is recognised as one of the most talented finishers of the present generation. Rinku has done justice to his reputation on several occasions, demonstrating his big-hitting prowess. Considering his current stature, Rinku’s exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad has certainly disheartened many fans.

Social media was flooded with many posts, with people showing their support for Rinku Singh. One fan referred to the KKR star’s strike rate and average in T20 Internationals. Rinku has so far played 15 twenty-over games for India. He has scored 356 runs at an average of 89. The power hitter has batted at a strike rate of over 175.

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan wrote, “I think Rinku Singh’s recent past performance for Team India shouldn’t have been ignored.”

Another user shed light on Rinku Singh’s last T20I game for India. In that match, the Southpaw struck an unbeaten 69 off 39 balls as his team posted 212 runs on the board. His knock was laced with two boundaries and six maximums.

A fan shared a picture of Rinku Singh in the Blue jersey and wrote, “Feel for Rinku Singh. One of the best in the business, but couldn’t make the main squad due to slot issues. He has done everything right to play in the World Cup.”

Rinku Singh hogged the limelight when he smacked five sixes in an over of Gujarat Titans’ Yash Dayal in Ahmedabad in the last edition of the IPL. In the ongoing season, Rinku has played nine matches so far and has slammed 123 runs at a strike of 150.
