UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has a unique approach to fasting, as he reportedly stays away from food between Sunday 5 pm to Tuesday 5 am. During this 36-hour fasting period, Sunak limits his intake to water, tea and calorie free drinks. The Prime Minister shared details about his fasting routine during an appearance on the ITV mid morning show, where he spoke about the upcoming general election to disposable vapes. Hosts Rylan Clark and Rochelle Humes couldn’t resist inquiring about his unique diet habits. While Sunak acknowledged that he adopted this habit to give his body a reset after eating delicious meals throughout the weekend, he later admitted to not being as disciplined as previously reported and confessed his love for sugary drinks and food.
During the interview, Rylan brought up the topic of his fasting and he specifically inquired if the chicken Sunak had consumed during the interview was his first meal since starting his fasting period. Sunak replied, “I’ve already had my second pastry today. No, yes. I wish I was as disciplined as has been reported. Like all of us, I start the week with the best of intentions and then you hit contact with reality at some point. I try on a Monday after an indulgent weekend to try and have a day of fasting. But it’s not totally nothing, but largely nothing. I do have the odd nut.”
Rishi Sunak added, “I start with the best of intentions, as we all do, but then things happen. I love sugary things, so I eat a lot of sugary pastries the rest of the week. I love my food, I don’t exercise as much as I used to because of my job. It’s a little reset and a detox at the start of the week.”
As reported by Huffington Post, a source close to the UK Prime Minister said he indeed refrains from eating anything on Mondays as part of his fasting routine. The source highlighted the remarkable nature of this practice, considering Sunak’s busy schedule that often includes official visits and preparation for Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQ) on Mondays. The source praised Sunak’s discipline, focus and determination.
In a previous appearance on The Twenty Minute VC podcast in 2021, Rishi Sunak had provided insights into his daily routine, including his wake up time between 6-7 am, followed by his gym plans. However, he admitted that his exercise routine had been destroyed due to his demanding role as Prime Minister.
Sunak mentioned that he engages in a variety of workouts, including Peleton, treadmill and HIIT classes. He further revealed that he occasionally pampers himself with a second breakfast and eats items like Gail’s cinnamon bun, a pain au chocolat or a chocolate chip muffin. During the weekend breakfast traditions, they eat full cooked breakfasts on Saturdays and pancakes or waffles on Sundays.
