The Hema Committee report has already created a massive buzz in the Malayalam film industry. Actress and Association of Malayalam Movie Artists executive member Jomol opened up in a recent press conference. She stated that she has been working in the film industry for many years now but till date, no one has mistreated her. She further said, “I have never encountered a situation where someone knocked on my door with inappropriate proposals.” She also said that no one has told her to adjust to get roles in popular films. It should be noted that the actor’s association AMMA has welcomed the Hema Committee report. Popular actor Siddique, General Secretary of AMMA stated that the association’s office bearers did not avoid commenting on the report. He said, “The members did not avoid commenting anything over the Hema Committee report. The delay in responding was due to some rehearsals.” He acknowledged the report stating that it is commendable and also expressed his desire to implement the recommendations as soon as possible in the film industry. Siddique also mentioned that it is disheartening to hear comments that imply everyone working in the Malayalam film industry.
Siddique further clarified that there is no internal discord within AMMA. He added, “The decision on whether to reveal the names of the accused will be made after careful consideration. But one thing to mention, there are several female office bearers of AMMA who were not called by the Hema Committee.” He stated that the organisation has limitations in interfering in issues that are related to the lack of basic facilities for women. He emphasised that it is not true that women still lack facilities in the Malayalam film industry as there has been significant improvement in recent times. “Presently, no action has been taken regarding the casting couch allegations due to the lack of proper evidence,” he added. The Justice Hema Committee report was revealed by the Kerala government on Monday, August 19.
