This 95-Year-Old New York Restaurant Serves Traditional Coca-Cola Float
Lexington Candy Shop, a nearly 95-year-old diner, has become the centre of attention on the internet after a video of them serving Coca-Cola went viral.

Coca-Cola is one of the oldest beverages, and like most things, it has evolved over time. Not many of us are aware, but the soft drink was also served in a particular way. While most restaurants have abandoned the traditional method of serving the drink, one New York diner continues to do so.

Lexington Candy Shop, a nearly 95-year-old diner, has become the centre of attention on the internet after a video of them serving Coca-Cola went viral. The clip was originally shared by newyorknico and since then it has collected 2.3 million views.

In the video, a man at the diner can be seen preparing the soft drink in the old-fashioned way. Rather than simply pouring the chilled drink into a glass, the man filled several Coca-Cola pumps with soda water and gave it a good shake or stir. He then adds a dollop of vanilla ice cream to the drink and serves it.

The video in question has gone viral on Instagram.

Watch the video here:

The viral video included a brief clip from Lexington Candy Shop, which has been located at the corner of Lexington Avenue and 83rd Street since 1925. It’s an authentic New York City luncheonette serving authentic American fare that takes locals back to a time when soda fountains were a common feature in every restaurant.

A similar video was posted on Instagram in 2022 by Nicolas Heller, who captioned the post saying, “Lexington Candy Shop is a 97-year-old luncheonette on the Upper East Side that still makes their Coke the old-fashioned way”.

The luncheonette is named after its longtime address on Manhattan’s Upper East Side: 1226 Lexington Avenue, three blocks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Step inside and you’ll be transported back in time, with 1940s decor such as a jukebox, pinball machine, and vintage signage. Lexington Candy Shop is without a doubt one of the coolest places to eat in NYC.

Since being shared, the post has received a lot of attention online. Many social media users were surprised by the traditional beverage consumption method.
