Team India begin the second Test of the five-match series against England at the Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakapatnam on the 2nd of February.
The home side faltered to an opening game loss at the Hyderabad Test, as England claimed a 1-0 series lead.
Following the end of the first game, India were handed an injury concern as all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul were ruled out of the second Test, in addition to the absence of star batter Virat Kohli, who will also take no part in the second fixture of the series.
As a result, Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar were added to the squad, while Rajat Patidar also made the cut in the squad ahead of the encounter.
During the side’s presser ahead of the game, when quizzed about who the unit could go within the playing XI between Paridar and Sarfaraz, the team’s batting coach Vikram Rathour opined that the call would be taken by skipper Rohit Sharma and his deputy Rahul.
“It will be a tough choice,” the 54-year-old coach began.
“What value they bring to the team, of course, is that they are super players. We have seen how well they have done in domestic cricket in the last few years,” he explained.
“So on these kind of wickets, I think they can really add a lot of value to the team,” Rathour said.
“If you have to pick one, it’s of course going to be tough. But that’s a decision I think Rahul and Rohit Sharma will have to make in a day or so,” Rathore added.
Team Indian bundled out Englan for 246 runs in the first innings of the opening Test before replying with a strong 436 to establish a 190-run lead. However, an inspired 196 runs knock from Ollie Pope and a stunning seven-wicket haul from debutant spinner Tom Hartley turned the tide in the Englishmen’s favour as they picked up a famous win at Hyderabad to edge ahead into the series lead.
