Sunrisers Hyderabad have stormed into the IPL 2024 season with an unyielding energy that refuses to dim. And their clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was yet another proof of this as Pat Cummins and his squad unleashed an onslaught that caught everyone off guard. After all, setting a new record mid-season isn’t something just anyone can achieve, but SRH did it with style and confidence, thanks to Travis Head’s century and Heinrich Klaasen’s solid fifty who guided their team to a whopping total of 287.
In response, RCB’s bowlers found themselves under relentless assault, resulting in some unwanted records of their own. Reece Topley and Vyshak Vijay Kumar bore the brunt, conceding 68 and 64 runs respectively, while Lockie Ferguson and Yash Dayal also struggled, leaking 52 runs each. Despite RCB’s batsmen showing some fight, the team succumbed to yet another defeat due to their bowling woes, this time by a margin of 25 runs.

However, just when the match seemed one-sided, Dinesh Karthik emerged as an unexpected saviour for RCB. Stepping in at No. 6 when hope seemed dim, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman unleashed a blistering onslaught, single-handedly reviving RCB’s chances. His remarkable innings of 83 runs off just 35 deliveries, although cut short by T Natarajan in the penultimate over, injected a much-needed dose of hope into the home side. And, as he bid farewell to the crease, the crowd rose to their feet, honouring his remarkable display with a standing ovation.
Everyone knew they were gonna lose, but Karthik’s valiant attempt at a comeback injected a thrilling dose of suspense into the match.
