Retirement can feel overwhelming as it signifies a significant life transition away from the workplace. However, there are individuals who embrace this milestone with great enthusiasm. For example, this Delta pilot who faithfully served the company for over three decades.
To mark the end of his journey and begin a new phase of his life, Captain Tom Lake took his last flight from Michigan to Atlanta with his pilot-son Erik Lake. Soon after landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, he announced his retirement.
Before taking his last flight, Lake spoke to Fox 5 and said, “I’ll try to keep it together as best as I can. I’ve been thinking about that for a while and I’ll be very emotional.”
Even his son mentioned, “It’s going to be something special. It’s going to be a moment that I will not forget for the rest of my life.”
In the past, Luke has taken many flights with his son. Taking to Instagram, Erik earlier shared a heart-warming collage video with his father featuring snippets from their journey as co-pilots.

On his experience of flying with his son, Tom Lake said, “It was really surreal. He’s sitting there, you know, obviously a professional pilot, but he’s still your son. It was a lot fun to watch him grow from a private pilot to all the way up to sitting in my cockpit with me.”
Erik, on the other hand, mentioned, “To be able to get to fly with my dad is just so special.”
The father-son duo have roughly spent 500 to 600 hours together over six years, as per a report in Fox 5.
