“Kya chal raha hai India mein?” said former Shark Tank India judge Ashneer Grover after he made the headlines. This happened a day after the ex BharatPe CEO and his wife, Madhuri Jain, were stopped from boarding their flight at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. They were travelling to New York. Multiple reports suggested that immigration officials halted their departure based on a lookout circular (LoC) issued by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Ashneer Grover shared a post expressing his reaction to media coverage of the incident. He emphasised that he had travelled abroad and returned four times since the Economic Offences Wing filed the case in May.
“Hello! Hello! Kya chal raha hai India mein? Filhaal to Ashneer stopped at the airport chal raha hai janab,” he began.
Providing details about the incident, he stated that he had not received any communication or summons from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) since the filing of the FIR in May until 8 AM on the morning of the 17th. He further mentioned that his intended travel dates were from November 16 to 23 for a trip to the United States.
While at the immigration counter, officials informed him that a lookout circular (LoC) had been issued, and they needed to check with the EOW for details.
“I found it strange as have travelled 4 times internationally since FIR filed in May – never been a problem and I had not even been summoned once. Flight left in meantime anyways,” he informed before adding that EOW officials directed immigration to allow him and his wife to exit the airport so they could return home. “Today morning EOW summon was home delivered – will cooperate as always,” he added.
Reacting to the situation, Ashneer Grover, seemingly surprised, said, “Baaki aapko jo chhaapna hai chhaapo. Picture chal rahi hai free mein – maze lo! Baaki premature obituaries bahut baari log likh chuke hai – ‘Jatt mareya tad maniye jad terami howe’! Don’t pronounce me dead till 13 days after you’ve burned me at the pyre!”
The EOW had filed an FIR in June against the couple and certain family members for alleged misappropriation of funds, causing losses of over Rs 80 crore to Resilient Innovations Private Limited (RIPL), which operates BharatPe. The FIR named Ashneer Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain Grover, and family members, including Deepak Gupta, Suresh Jain, and Shwetank Jain.
