'MEITY In Touch With Microsoft': Minister Vaishnaw Says Reasons Behind Outage Identified, NIC Network Not Hit

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said the cause of the outage of Microsoft services had been identified, and updates had been released to resolve the issue. He also mentioned that the NIC network was not affected by the outage.

The Union Minister further informed that MEITY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) is in contact with Microsoft and its associates regarding the global outage.

The CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) has issued a technical advisory related to the outage of Microsoft services.

Taking on the microblogging site ‘X Vaishnav said, “MEITY is in touch with Microsoft and its associates regarding the global outage. The reason for this outage has been identified and updates have been released to resolve the issue. CERT is issuing a technical advisory. NIC network is not affected.”

Microsoft users globally reported massive outages in services, with outage tracking website Downdetector showing users flagging disruptions across various services.

The I&B Minister shared another post on X and also said, “CERT-In is coordinating with CISOs of critical infrastructure entities. All impacted entities are working to bring up their systems. In many cases, systems are partially up.”

Globally, the Microsoft cloud outage led to US airlines cancelling flights, but the tech giant later reportedly said its cloud services outage in the Central US region has been resolved.

A new Crowdstrike (cybersecurity software firm) update is being cited as the cause of the outage, which has impacted Windows-based desktops and laptops.

On the outage tracking website Downdetector, users reported problems across the Microsoft line-up including Azure, and Teams.

Microsoft said it is investigating the issue “impacting users ability to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services”.

Meanwhile, all airlines in India on Friday reported that their systems across the network are impacted by an ongoing outage in Microsoft Azure. Flyers are advised to reach out to their respective airlines for information on the flights.

Microsoft Azure, or just Azure, is the cloud computing platform developed by Microsoft. It offers management, access, and development of applications and services to individuals, companies, and governments.

Delhi Airport said due to the global IT issue, some of the services at the Airport were temporarily impacted. It said it is closely working with all the stakeholders to minimise the inconvenience to the flyers.
