Google Play starts offering 'free app of the week'
Until now, the search giant had not offered any similar type of promotion.

New Delhi: Google is loosening its grip on the paid Android apps in its Play Store as it starts to offer free app every week.

Until now, the search giant had not offered any similar type of promotion. However, it has quietly rolled out the ‘free app of the week,’ which is present under the Family apps tag for now.

This move indicates that Google is slowly changing its mechanism to give away free apps. Previously if a developer of a paid app changed their price to free, the Play Store would not allow them to change it back to a paid app, a Lifehacker report notes.

The feature is expected to extend to other category of apps in the coming weeks, but there is no official word about any such change in the policy. Currently, the free app is a kids game called Daniel Tiger Grr-ific Feelings.
