New Delhi: As the Apple Watch gets closer to the wrists of the consumers, Google is leaving no stone unturned to highlight its own Android Wear watches to garner interest. The search giant has released a major update to its Android Wear smartwatches adding more functionality to the wearable devices.
The search giant notes the changes in its blog that includes an 'always-on apps' feature. The smartwatch software already includes an always-on screen which doesn't require you to tap, twist, or shake the watch to see the time. Now, the update will extend this feature to apps so that they can stay visible as long as you need them instead of disappearing when you drop your arm.
Having always-on apps won't compromise on the battery as the screen will only be full colour when you are actively looking at it.
Other than having always-on apps, the Android Wear will now support built-in Wi-Fi that will allow you to receive notifications, send messages and use apps over data connection.
The new update also lets you just flick your wrist to scroll through the notification stream, while just a simple touch will be able to start apps and send messages. You can also draw emojis directly on the watch screen and send them via message or text.
Google says that these updates will be rolled out to all seven Android Wear watches over the next few weeks, starting with the new LG Watch Urbane.
