When MGR Offered Hot Milk To Anbe Vaa Producer For This Reason
Anbe Vaa achieved cult status in the Tamil film industry after its release.

MG Ramachandran was one of the actors who gained recognition in the Tamil movie industry as well as in politics. He gave numerous super hit movies, which ran for over 100 days in theatres. Apart from his crowd-pulling ability through movies, the actor was also known to be a generous and helpful man by his colleagues and fans. One such incident took place during the shooting of his all-time superhit movie, Anbe Vaa. It was written and directed by AC Tirulokchandar. It starred MG Ramachandran and actress B Saroja Devi in the lead role. It was released in 1966. During media interaction, the leading producer of the Tamil cinema industry, the late AV Meiyappan Chettiar revealed the helpful nature of MGR, while filming Anbe Vaa. It has now resurfaced on the internet and is making rounds on social media.

Anbe Vaa was one of the first South Indian films to be shot in Shimla, inspiring many other South filmmakers to choose Shimla as its location. During the shoot, M Saravanan – who was one of the leading producers of the movie – was not feeling well. He reached the sets of the film but was unable to get out of his car due to poor health. He had a dry throat due to which he was also finding it hard to work or talk. After superstar MGR came to know about the poor health of Saravanan, he wasted no time and took a tumbler of hot milk to Saravanan’s car. He handed the milk to the producer and asked him to drink it. Shocked by the hospitality of the actor, Saravanan said, “Why did you bring this? You could’ve asked the clerk to bring it”. To this MGR replied, “If I do that, you may have objected. But you will drink it if I tell you. So, I bought it myself. Drink this”. Producer Saravanan was highly moved by the helpful nature of MGR.

Anbe Vaa achieved cult status in the Tamil film industry after its release. The evergreen music of the movie was composed by MS Viswanathan and was produced under the banner of AVM Productions. It was released on the eve of Pongal in 1966.
