Marnus Labuschagne produced some electrifying work on the field and effected a couple of run-outs against Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup match on Saturday. The premier star was right on the money in the fielding and helped Australia claim a couple of crucial wickets.

Bangladesh stand-in skipper Najmul Shanto became the first victim. It was the fifth ball of the 28th over and he charged down the ground to play it on the square leg where Labuschagne collected the ball quickly and produced a run-out with an excellent throw to the keeper. The southpaw departed for 45.

The premier batter talked about his fielding in the innings break.

“I think it is about awareness of where the run out could happen, and early speed towards the ball. I do a lot of work on stump hitting, sliding around and rely on whatever work you’ve done in practice before the tournament. Need to keep myself fresh for the tournament,” he told broadcasters after the first innings.

Earlier, Towhid Hridoy’s maiden World Cup fifty took Bangladesh to 306-8 against Australia in Pune.

The 22-year-old’s 74, his sixth fifty in 24 one-day internationals, was the cornerstone of Bangladesh’s highest total of the tournament.

Adam Zampa was the pick of Australia’s attack with 2-32 as the leg-spinner became the outright leading bowler in the tournament with 22 wickets.

Australia now needed to surpass their record World Cup winning chase of 292 against Afghanistan in Mumbai on Tuesday.

But they were without double-century hero Glenn Maxwell, the all-rounder rested after his breathtaking 201 not out revived Australia from the depths of 91-7 to seal a three-wicket win in that game.

Talking about Bangladesh’s total. Labuschagne said it’s a decent score but the wicket is also good for batting.

“They played well at the top, put us under pressure. We pulled it back nicely. It is a decent score, but looks like a good wicket,” he added.

He also opened up on how the Aussies are going to approach the chase.

“Play nice and positive up top, and then when we get an opportunity in the middle overs, just play smart and finish things off,” he said.
