New Delhi: As the DMK reels from the double shock of losing the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and MP Kanimozhi behind bars in the 2G scam, it seems that one top party leader had seen it coming.
Top secret US Diplomatic cables accessed by WikiLeaks and published in 'The Hindu' newspaper claim that DMK MP and Karunanidhi's grandnephew Dayanidhi Maran had predicted the party's downfall as early as February 2008.
Maran also said that the party would suffer if it didn't mend its corrupt image.
In the cable, Consul general David Hopper told the US state Department that Maran told him, "When people get into power, they lose concentration and start focusing on making money."
While he was scathing about the DMK and the UPA, Maran was all praise for Rahul Gandhi, calling him the Congress' only real chance.
