Chennai: The budget session of Tamil Nadu Assembly will begin on August 4 when Finance Minister O Panneerselvam will present the budget for 2011-12, the first by the Jayalalithaa Government after coming to power in May.
Speaker D Jayakumar has convened the session of the state Assembly on August 4 for presentation of the budget, Assembly Secretary AMP Jamalaudeen said in a release on Sunday.
Earlier, the previous DMK Government had presented an interim budget on February 5 in view of the Assembly polls in the state.
Jayalalithaa had recently met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and sought central assistance to various schemes, citing financial crisis faced by the state.
Soon after winning the April 13 assembly polls, the AIADMK supremo had said the state had been pushed into a debt trap with a borrowing of Rs one lakh crore.
'The state's Treasury is empty and I have to start from the scratch. Restructuring a house is an easier job but building a house is a tough task. We are entrusted with such a tough task', she had said.
