By-poll in Shahkot was necessitated because of the death Akali Dal MLA Ajit Singh Kohar on February 4, 2018. Maheshtala is part of Jalandhar Parliamentary constituency.

Voting for the seat took place on May 28, 2018 and counting/results on May 31, 2018.
