New Delhi: Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Monday rejected reports which warned that the Government's current policy on the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) could cost the party dearly in elections.
Dismissing suggestions that the Special Economic Zones would be politically suicidal for the ruling party, he said setting up of the SEZs would "ultimately benefit the Congress" as it would usher in faster growth.
The reports had quoted Moily as having cautioned about the potential of SEZs hitting the party during polls.
"You cannot go slow on them (SEZs), speed has to be accelerated", Moily told PTI.
The former Karnataka Chief Minister, however, said he had voiced certain concerns on the way the policy should be implemented so that it would serve the cause of balanced development. But he emphasised that in no way did it mean that the policy is not good.
Moily denied he had given any report to the party on the issue and said he has given his "views" to the Group of Ministers headed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the SEZ issue.
