Seat sharing a stumbling block for ''grand alliance''
Seat sharing a stumbling block for ''grand alliance''
An understanding over seat sharing couldn't be reached by TDP and TRS.

Hyderabad: The much-hyped ''grand alliance'' formation meeting by the main opposition Telugu Desam Party and comprising the Left parties and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, was ''postponed'' as an understanding over seat sharing could not be reached between the TDP and the TRS for the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

The TRS State Executive, which met on Wednesday, adopted a unanimous resolution authorising Party President K Chandrasekara Rao to decide on the issue of ''alliance at an appropriate time'' by holding discussions with other parties, keeping in view the interests of the party and achieving the separate Telangana goal, party spokesman Jagadish Reddy told reporters.

TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu held talks with party leaders from the Telangana region and asked party MP E Dayakar Rao to negotiate further with the TRS to arrive at an amicable understanding with the latter.

The leaders of the four parties who met at the residence of Mr Naidu on January 15, had announced the formation of ''Mahakutami'' on January 21.

While the TRS demanded at least ten Lok Sabha seats and 52 Assembly seats during talks with the TDP, the main opposition party was ready to part with not more than eight Lok Sabha and 45 Assembly seats, as it had to accommodate other allies too.
