Joe Root is in red-hot form these days, and in the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka at the Lord’s, he scored centuries in both innings for the first time in his career to put England in pole position of winning the match and go 2-0 up. He amassed a total of 143 runs in the first inning and scored 103 runs from 121 balls in the second inning on Saturday (August 31).

1st English batter to score 50 centuries: The second century of the ongoing second Test between England and Sri Lanka helped Root become the first English batter to score 50 centuries in international cricket. The former England Test captain has 34 triple-digit scores to his name in 145 Tests and 16 centuries in 171 ODIs.
Most runs at Lord’s in Tests: Root broke former England’s skipper Graham Gooch’s record of 2015 runs to become the all-time leading run scorer in Test matches played at Lord’s. He has 2022 runs to his name in 22 red-ball matches played so far at the iconic venue.
Most Test centuries at Lord’s: By scoring two centuries in the second Test against Sri Lanka, Root became the first batter in history to score seven Test centuries at the Home of Cricket. He went past former England skippers Graham Gooch and Michael Vaughan’s tally of six centuries each. The century in both innings of the ongoing Test also helped him become only the fourth batter in history to score two centuries in one Test at Lord’s.
Most runs for England in Tests vs Sri Lanka: Root broke former England skipper Cook’s record of 1290 runs to take the No. 1 position in the list of English batters who have managed to score most runs in Tests played against Sri Lanka. Root has 1351 runs to his name in 12 matches.
