Chennai: On Monday, Tamil Government released the medical reports of former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. In the discharge summary, it was stated that: It was clinically concluded that there was no heart function and there was also no neurological improvement denoting futility of life support.
Hence, after following all procedures, the position was conveyed to senior Ministers and Political Leaders (Thiru O Panneerselvam, DrVijayabhaskar, Thiru M. Thambidurai), MsSasikala, and Government Officials (Chief Secretary and Health Secretary). All of them understood the situation, and asked the medical team to act as per the standard protocol. The late Hon’ble Chief Minister passed away at 11:30 PM on December 5, 2016."
In Chennai's Egmore, where O.Panneerselvam spearheaded the fast, more than 3000 people participated in the hunger strike. Panneerselvam reacted to the report released by TN Government and said: "In the report released by TN Govt, it is said that I was informed about Amma's health. It is completely baseless. If the Health Secretary does not retract his statement, I will sue him... When certain channels started saying Amma was no more, I was at home. It was around 5:30 pm. I rushed to the hospital after seeing this. I asked doctors at Apollo, but they didn't tell me anything. I was informed about her death only around 11 PM.
He also attacked Tamil Nadu's Health Minister Vijay Bhaskar saying that he should be the first person to be probed with regard to Jaya's treatment and health. "Vijaya Baskar would be the first guilty person if there's a probe on Jayalalithaa's death. Let them enquire me. I'll tell everything that happened during those 75 days."
OPS camp also highlighted the fact that the Apollo medical bulletins and the report released by TN Government are contradictory.
C. Ponnaiyan, former Minister who joined the OPS camp, said: "The report submitted by AIIMS clearly said that Amma was unconscious from September 28. The report said that when Amma was taken to Apollo on Sept 22, she was breathless. This is not what Sasikala camp or Apollo mentioned. O.Panneerselvam was not allowed inside Apollo and was not given any briefs on Jayalalithaa. Some of Sasikala's loyalists were allowed but not Panneerselvam."
DMK has time and again asked for a judicial probe into Jaya's death. Now, OPS camp is also planning to fight till their demands are met. O. Panneerselvam said: "Our struggle will continue till there's a probe into Jaya death mystery. The battle will not stop till we retrieve the party from Sasikala family. Amma lived for the people of Tamil Nadu. AIADMK was always a people's party, but now, it has become a benami party with Sasikala's family controlling both the party, and the Government."
It is not just O.Panneerselvam, who claims he and his loyalists are the real AIADMK, even Deepa Jayakumar, the niece of the late Jayalalithaa, claims that she is the political heir of Jayalalithaa. Deepa told CNN-News 18: "Sasikala hurt Jayalalithaa. There was something that led to the sudden demise of my aunt. There should be a probe over my aunt's death."
