New Delhi: On Friday, Lok Sabha speaker ordered an inquiry into CNN-IBN's exclusive report on two MPs being exposed for falsifying passport documents. Today, the Ministry of external affairs confirmed it will revoke the passport of BSP MP Ramakant Yadav.
There hasn't been an official reaction yet from the Ministry of External Affairs on the two MPs who committed the passport fraud. Although, the Foreign Ministry's silence cannot be confused with inaction. MEA sources have confirmed to CNN-IBN that Ramakant Yadav, BSP's MP from Azamgarh, will lose the diplomatic passport issued to him by the Minsitry this year.
Earlier this year, passport no. D 1107397 was issued to Yadav on 28th April 2005, after he lodged an FIR claiming he had lost his old passport no D 1102702 on 2nd April 2005.
But a CNN-IBN investigation revealed on Thursday that Yadav was lying. Since Oct 2003, Yadav's original passport was at the Candian High Commission awaiting a visa.
The Foreign Ministry is now embarrassed about issuing Yadav the duplicate passport without cross-checking its records. Sources have now confirmed that the passport will be cancelled. CNN-IBN also learns that Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran can expect to hear from the Lok Sabha secretariat on the scam on Monday.
With Parliament in recess, the Speaker may have to spend much of his time in Kolkata. Those close to him assure us that Mr Chatterjee intends to get to the root of this matter and so, regardless of whether he's in Delhi or in Kolkata, he will closely follow the progress on these two cases on a regular basis.
