BJP candidate Kamal Gupta had lost the elections twice to Savitri Jindal.

Hisar: In a last minute effort to garner as many votes on October 15, candidates in Hisar did not leave any stones unturned on Monday. The city of Hisar witnessed grand roadshows by Congress MLA Savitri Jindal and BJP candidate Kamal Gupta while Haryana Janhit Congress candidate Gautam Sardana took part in door-to-door campaign.

The Congress was the first to hit the ground as it started its roadshow at around 10 AM from the Jindal House. The roadshow from the heart of city had thousands of Congress workers, supporters in cars, two-wheelers and tempos with party flags, caps, banners and posters.

Former Union minister and Savitri Jindal's son Naveen accompanied her on the jeep appealing people to vote for her. He used the development card and her clean image to make a pitch for votes.

Savitri Jindal's other son Ratan said, "We were the first one to hold the roadshow. Others followed us."

There were huge traffic jams due to roadshows and campaigns and it became very difficult for officials to man the traffic. Haryana Police Inspector Inder Singh said, "People are very adamant here. They do not listen to us and instead blame the police for traffic jams."

After reaching the destination, Sushila Bhawan, Savitri Jindal addressed the people and thanked them for their support.

One of the party workers said, "Our roadshow is a hit and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally was a flop."

Another worker, who was confident of the victory, said, "We will the seat by a margin of 1 lakh votes."

Even the people of Hisar seemed to be going the Congress way. Rakhi Jha, one of the residents, said, "We are happy with the present government. She will definitely win."

Mukesh Verma, another resident, said, "There is no Modi wave here. Given her image and work done by her, she will win the seat."

Meanwhile, HJC candidate Gautam Sardana was busy in door-to-door campaign. He hardly spent a minute or so in every shop he visited and seemed to be in a hurry to cover the length and breadth of the city.

Sardana, who fought as an Independent in 2009, said, "We will be over 20,000 votes this time and the results will say everything."

Accusing the present Congress government of doing nothing for the welfare of people, Sardana said, "They were busy in corruption."

But the Bharatiya Janata Party was nowhere to be seen till noon. BJP candidate Kamal Gupta had lost the elections twice to Savitri Jindal. The party is only playing the Narendra Modi card making the lack of leadership in the state even more evident.
