New Delhi: Not missing any chance to hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shiv Sena on Wednesday said it is unfortunate that he condemned the controversy involving Pakistan ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali and former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri.
Taking a dig at Modi, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said, "Modi, who is world famous for Godhra and Ahmedabad, calls incidents involving Ghulam Ali and Kasuri unfortunate, then it is very unfortunate for all of us."
In major embarrassment for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt Ghulam Ali's concert in Mumbai which led to its cancellation. Ever after assurances from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the organisers were scared to go ahead with the concert.
Two days ago, Sena activists also smeared black paint on ORF's Sudheendra Kulkarni for organising Kasuri's book launch in Mumbai.
Modi on Wednesday broke his silence on Dadri lynching case and controversy involving Ghulam Ali and termed both the incidents as unfortunate. "Dadri and Ghulam Ali incidents are unfortunate, but Central government is not responsible for them," said Modi.
The Congess also attacked Modi saying his statement will not be taken seriously. "Such statement by the PM will not be taken seriously by the public. Is Mahesh Sharma not from BJP? Was any action taken on him?" asked Congress's Rashid Alvi.
Modi had in an interview to a newspaper said, "The BJP never supports such incidents. The opposition accuses BJP of communal politics everytime but actually they are the ones indulging in it."
Backing Alvi, his party colleague Sachin Pilot said, "Slowly we are becoming an intolerant society as the world is viewing us which is very unfortunate. The government of the day is responsible to keep that consciousness alive. You can't have divisive force become so strong that they overcome all ethos of our cultural heritage, our history, our societal integrity."
BJP MP Satyapal Singh defended the party saying, "Whenever a statement comes from the PM it is final. Be it Dadri or the protest in Mumbai against the lauch of book, it has nothing to do with the BJP. Those who want to connect it with BJP, they have personal political intentions."
