Mehbooba bargains with BJP on alliance, wants Centre to engage J&K separatists
Sources said that Mehbooba wants no 'needless' raking up of emotive issues such as political statements on beef and Article 370.

While Mehbooba Mufti has kept everyone waiting over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, sources have suggested that the demands of the PDP chief are to be blamed for the alliance trouble.

According to sources, there has been delay in the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir as Mehbooba has sought assurance from alliance partner, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of a free hand at the highest level.

Mehbooba intends to get certain immediate concessions to continue the alliance. Sources said that Mehbooba wants the Centre-owned power projects based on state river to be handed over to state.

Her demands also include engaging of separatists in talks on Kashmir, and vacation of private lands occupied by the Army.

Sources also said that Mehbooba wants no 'needless' raking up of emotive issues such as political statements on beef and Article 370.

Party sources said that the PDP was also losing ground in Jammu and Kashmir due to the alliance with the BJP.

Meanwhile, the BJP has decided to wait for a meeting of the PDP, scheduled for January 31 in Srinagar, to take a call on the future course of action.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also not talked to Mehbooba on the issue.

This comes even as the Mufti family vacated the CM residential house in Jammu, and returned many security and government vehicles and personnel.

Mufti's wife Gulshan Bano took away her personal belongings from Jammu's Chief Minister residence, abandoning the special privileges otherwise entitled to a chief minister's family.

Mehbooba Mufti has been facing demands from opposition National Conference to take over as Chief Minister or go in for fresh Assembly elections.

Following the death of Sayeed, the PDP had said it would review the implementation of its Agenda of Alliance, entered with the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, during the term of the coalition government headed by the PDP founder before making a decision on fresh government formation.

The state was placed under Governor's Rule on January 8, a day after Sayeed's death.
