Mumbai: The BCCI office bearers and the IPL franchise owners on Thursday discussed the crucial points ahead of the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League. Ness Wadia, Raj Kundra, Vijay Mallya and other franchise owners attended the meeting.
The BCCI officials sought views of all the 10 team owners and will present those views to the IPL Governing Council which will meet at the BCCI headquarters on Friday.
The incidents that led to the suspension of IPL chief Lalit Modi and the future functioning of the league are amongst the crucial points discussed at the meeting.
The method and agreements on the retention of Indian and foreign players in each team as well as the length of the cash-rich league were also discussed in the meeting.
The team owners met the new IPL chief Chirayu Amin for the first time after Modi's suspension. A three-member team comprising former cricketers Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, and Nawab Pataudi has been constituted to look into all the issues.
Sources say the franchises are demanding representation in the IPL board even as the meeting also discussed formation of a franchisee union. Few names have come up but no decision on the leader yet. A second round of talks would be held soon.
Modi clarifies on Khap Panchayat:
Meanwhile, suspended IPL chief Lalit Modi said he was misunderstood by a section of the media over his comments comparing the BCCI to Khap Panchayats. His lawyer Mehmood Abdi said: "The comment made by me was my own opinion and not a statement made by me on behalf of Mr.Lalit Modi. The expression Khap Panchayat was not a reference to or used to describe the BCCI or the Special General Meeting convened on 3rd July."
