New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the second day in a row, asking him whether he brought back black money from Switzerland.
Modi returned to India after attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, ahead of Republic Day when he will host leaders of ASEAN countries.
Welcoming Modi back to India, Gandhi wondered on Twitter whether the PM was getting black money back in his plane as well.
Dear PM,Welcome back from SWITZERLAND. Quick reminder about your promise on BLACK MONEY. Youth in India were wondering if you got any back with you in your plane?— Office of RG (@OfficeOfRG) January 24, 2018
Earlier on Tuesday, Gandhi and the BJP locked horns over inequitable distribution of wealth in India, with the Congress president asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to tell people in Davos why one per cent of the country's population has 73 percent of its wealth.
"Dear PM, Welcome to Switzerland! Please tell DAVOS why 1% of India's population gets 73% of its wealth? I'm attaching a report for your ready reference," he tweeted.
Gandhi tweet also tagged a news report quoting an Oxfam survey which said the richest 1 percent cornered 73 percent of wealth generated in India in 2017.
Reacting sharply to Gandhi's tweet, BJP spokesman GVL Narsimha Rao took to Twitter, saying, "Dear @OfficeofRG This inequality is the disastrous consequence of your family's patented Nehru Congress's "Poverty Perpetuation" Model of Governance by which only Congressis became rich."
In the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, one of Modi’s electoral promises was that he would bring black money stashed illegally abroad back to the country.
