General VK Singh does it again, BJP continues to grapple with its 'foot in mouth' leaders

New Delhi: The creator of the word "Prestitutes" in India, Union Minister and former Army Chief General VK Singh has done it once again. A few hours after his colleague in the Narendra Modi government Kiren Rijiju’s controversial statement on the North Indians breaking laws sparked off a controversy, General Singh has embarrassed the party once again. Commenting on the burning of two Dalit children near Faridabad in Haryana, Singh, MP from neighbouring Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh Singh said “the killing was the result of a personal rivalry. If a dog is stoned, can’t blame the Centre”.

The former Army chief Singh’s choice of words and the crude statement he made have hit the political circles of India like a Tsunami within a few minutes. The Opposition leaders like Manish Tiwari, Brinda Karat, Manoj Jha, Professor Yogendra Yadav and many others have come down upon him heavily demanding an immediate apology and sacking of him.

Of late, the Modi government at the Centre is battling controversial statements being made by its leaders. After the Dadri incident in which a person was killed for allegedly eating beef, local MP and Union minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma also made a controversial statement terming it an ‘accident’.

Another BJP leader and MLA Sangeet Som almost defended the killing. RSS affiliated leaders like Sadhvi Prachi, BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj and others also almost defended it in the public. After these comments generated a lot of heat, the BJP president Amit Shah was forced to issue a gag order asking them not to shoot their mouths off. Even the RSS chief Mohan Rao Bhagwat’s statement on the reservation had also kicked up a row. The strong reactions forced both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah to assure the people that the caste based reservation system will continue.

General VK Singh first hit the national headlines after he went to the Supreme Court on his date of birth issue. Angry with the media which often attacks his demeanours and criticises his statements, Singh has even called them “Prestitutes”.

Singh is also accused of brazenly using his Rajput caste identity when he fought with the Centre over his date of birth issue. Many called him insensitive and unfit to be the Army Chief. However Singh looks undeterred and unfazed.

His march of ‘controversial’ and insensitive statements continue and they continue to embarrass his party.
