New Delhi: Finally speaking up over the rift going on within the Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted his displeasure over the turn of events.
"I am deeply hurt and pained by what is going on in the party. This is betrayal of trust that Delhi posed in us. I refuse to be drawn in this ugly battle. Will concentrate only on Delhi's governance,(sic)" Kejriwal tweeted.
His tweet comes just a day ahead of the party's National Executive meeting which is scheduled to held on Wednesday. Meanwhile, clearly drawing the battle lines, party member Prashant Bhushan has said that he will not be attending the meet on Wednesday claiming that he has prior engagements. According to sources, Bhushan could be expelled from the PAC at the meet.
In an attempt to bring down party member Yogendra Yadav, Kejriwal loyalists released a recorded conversation with a journalist who held an informal breakfast meeting with Yadav.
As reported by The Indian Express, it is being alleged by AAP that during the meeting, Yadav gave critical party information to the media. The conversation was supposed to be off the record but was recorded by secretely. The allegations against Yadav were made by AAP's Delhi Secretary Dilip Pandey.
Earlier too, Pandey had written a letter to the disciplinary committee alleging anti-party activities by Yadav.
Crisis in the party intensified after Prashant Bhushan, in a letter to the national executive last week, said that the "one person-centric" campaign was making the party look like other parties and called for more "swaraj" within the organisation.
Along with Yadav, he also gave a joint letter to the national executive and demanded activation of an ethics and grievance committee. Yadav added that although electoral politics requires a face, the party should make a conscious effort not to fall prey to personality cult.
"Within the organisation you have to ensure that we do not fall prey to personality cult. These are the things which we have to constantly struggle. It's not a special case that AAP has to struggle with. Its a real question of democratic procedure. I am happy that AAP is at least struggling with these questions and there are no easy answers," Yadav said.
