A case has been filed against Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi for not allowing screening of Parzania in Gujarat.

Ahmedabad: A criminal case has been filed in the Mehsana court against Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi for not allowing the screening of the film Parzania in Gujarat.

Following the complaint, Judicial Magistrate G M Damodra on Tuesday ordered the town's police to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter and submit the report to the court within 15 days, Chatur Patel, an advocate appearing in the case said.

Complainant N K Acharya mentioned in his complaint that Bajrangi seems to be running a parallel government in the state.

Multiplex owners in Gujarat, on Tuesday, had decided not to screen Parzania, a film about a Parsi family’s search for their young son who goes missing during the Godhra riots in the state.

The film, directed by Rahul Dholakia, was released across the country on January 26 except in Gujarat. Multiplex owners in the state justified their decision, saying that they feared vandalism, especially in the wake of the Bajrang Dal warning that it would disrupt any attempt to screen the movie if it hurt Hindu sentiments.

The move came despite an assurance by city Police Commissioner J Mahapatra that multiplexes showing the movie would be protected.

Parzania, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Sarika, is based on the real life story of a Parsi couple from Ahmedabad who lost their son in the riots in 2002. The film was completed a year ago but its release was delayed in India.
