New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to suspended Gujarat IAS officer Pradeep Sharma. He was released on a bail bond of Rs five lakh and three sureties.
The Supreme Court has asked state government authorities to ensure that Pradeep doesn’t misuse the bail conditions.
Pradeep, who was arrested for alleged irregularity in land allotment to private firms, in his plea stated that he was being targeted by the Narendra Modi government because his younger brother Kuldip Sharma had gone against the state government.
Kuldip, a senior IPS officer in the state, had revealed what he called several misdeeds of the Modi government since the 2002 Godhra riots.
The SC’s decision to grant bail to Pradeep is being touted as a set-back for Narendra Modi.
Sharma moved the SC after the Gujarat High Court had dismissed his earlier bail plea.
