Virat Kohli was at his joyful best on the field against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday as the Sri Lankan top order collapsed chasing India’s target of 358. Kohli had scored 88 runs with the bat in the first innings, narrowly missing the chance to equal Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 ODI centuries. Virat seemed utterly disappointed when he made his way back to the dugout, but in the second innings, he was in a jovial mood as Indian bowlers ran rampant with the new ball.
Jasprit Bumrah became the first Indian to pick up a wicket on the first ball of the innings during a World Cup game, while Mohammed Siraj picked up three early wickets in his opening spell to leave the Sri Lanka top order rattled.
The scoreboard read 3/4, and after a while Mohammed Shami joined the party, picking up two wickets when he came to bowl, as Sri Lanka collapsed to 14/6.

Dushmantha Chameera was dismissed on a duck as Shami drew level with Javagal Sreenath and Zaheer Khan to become India’s joint-highest wicket-taker in World Cups with 44 wickets after his fourth scalp against Sri Lanka.
The last time India faced Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final, the Lankans were all out for 50 runs, after Mohammed Siraj’s six-wicket haul.
The win over Sri Lanka would officially confirm India’s place in the semifinals as the Men in Blue were on the cusp of their seventh consecutive win in the group stages, which would take them 14 points on the table.
