Mitchell Marsh slammed an unbeaten knock of 177 runs, scoring his second ton in the World Cup 2023 as Australia crushed Bangladesh by 8 wickets in Pune at the MCA Stadium on Saturday.
Australia finished their preparations for the semifinal against South Africa in some style, picking up their seventh win in a row in the group stage. Earlier, Bangladesh had recorded their highest total in the tournament so far, riding on Towhid Hridoy’s fifty.
Bangladesh scored 306/8 in fifty overs, they could have gotten more only if the top-order batters converted their starts to high scores but all of them were guilty of gifting their wickets, either through poor shots or by lack of communication while running between the wickets.

Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das actually gave the Bangla Tigers a promising start in Shakib Al Hasan’s absence, their opening stand of 76 runs set the stage for the rest of the batters.
However, apart from Towhid Hridoy none of the Bangladesh batters managed to go past the 50-run mark however, they did build partnerships one after the other, and thus the Bangla Tigers reached the 300-run mark.
Towards the end of the innings, they lost all the impetus, but it was a record for the Bangladesh side. Australia’s previous best chase was the 292-run knock that they pulled off courtesy of Glenn Maxwell’s double century and thus they faced a daunting total of 307 to chase.
David Warner and Travis Head started on a promising note but Head was castled by Taskin Ahmed on 10.

Despite the early hiccup, Warner and Marsh didn’t have any troubles punishing the rest of the bowlers and stamping their authority on the game.
David scored a fifty as he stitched a century stand with Mitchell, however, he was dismissed by Mustafizur on 53. Steve Smith then joined hands with Marsh and the duo got Australia over the line with Smith also hitting a half-century to warm up for the semifinal in some style.
