Massive Traffic in Delhi Ahead of Diwali; Anand Vihar Road, Gurugram & Meerut E-ways Worst Hit
Delhi Traffic Police had warned that pre-Diwali 'high-volume traffic' is expected on the city roads nearby market areas and around major malls.

Delhi and its neighbouring regions have been witnessing heavy traffic since Friday as office-goers head home to celebrate Diwali. Saturday morning visuals showed crawling traffic on the road leading towards Anand Vihar ISBT and railway station.

On Friday evening, which was ‘Dhanteras’, Ghazipur border, Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and Delhi-Meerut Expressway witnessed packed roads. The heavy rush came amid government’s repeated requests and mulling ‘odd-even’ to reduce vehicular pollution amid ‘hazardous’ air in the national capital.

Many netizens also took to social media to inform about packed roads. One ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Prem Sharma Maithil, claimed that Nangloi road is blocked.

Some claimed that they’re feeling “frustrated” due to heavy traffic early in the morning.

Another user claimed on Saturday morning that she has been “stuck in traffic jam for the last one hour” on Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

Delhi Traffic Police’s Special Advisory

Ahead of Diwali and Dhanteras celebrations, Delhi police had issued a festive special advisory. It said that special traffic arrangement will be made on weekend.

In its advisory, Delhi Traffic Police said that areas nearby key market areas of the Delhi will remain crowded on 10th and 12th November. To avoid long traffic jams, people were advised to use public transport and avoid public vehicles. In its notice, Delhi Traffic police had asked motorists and car owners were asked to remain patient while driving.

Key areas of the city like Chandni Chowk, Khari Boli, Connaught Place, Karol Bag, Sarojini Nagar, Sadar Bazar, Lajpat Nagar, Nehru Place, Greater Kailash, etc were mentioned in the advisory notice issued by Delhi Traffic Police.
