'DigiYatra, More CISF Staff': Delhi Flyers Furious, Aviation Minister Reaches Airport with Solution
Launched by Scindia himself, DigiYatra service is a facial recognition technology-based system to provide hassle-free travel to air passengers.

As Delhi’s Terminal 3 became a flyer’s nightmare, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday. The minister said that his team has studied the situation and taken a summary. He further stressed on using ‘DigiYatra’ that will “facilitate some ease”.

Launched by Scindia himself, DigiYatra service is a facial recognition technology-based system to provide hassle-free travel to air passengers. This new digital initiative allows entry of air passengers to travel without an identification card.

“The CISF will provide adequate amount of staff. There will be no compromise on it,” he further said. A report in Indian Express had quoted airport officials as saying on Sunday that they are managing operations with only 5,000 CISF staffers — a number that has remained the same since 2017.

Currently, Terminal 3 is facing a surge in passengers leading to chaos and long queues at immigration and security. The report stated that the airport officials attributed this to fewer counters, smaller space, more passengers as well as limited security staff.

The report further quoted its sources as saying that these 5,000 security personnel cover the entire airport, including all terminals, the cargo area, offices, airport gates, and security check among others.

T3 manages over 500 domestic and 250 international flights. Flights have been reduced from 22 flights per hour to 19 flights per hour and the numbers will be further reduced to ease the load and decongest the airport, officials were quoted.

Among those stuck in Delhi airport’s serpentine queues was Highway on My Plate (HOMP) show host Rocky Singh. He wrote on Twitter “welcome to hell” with the picture of a long queue at the security.

After the complaints of overcrowding and congestion at Delhi airport, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) drew up a four-point action plan to be implemented as immediate remedial measure.

These include enhancing the number of X-Ray screening systems from 14 to 16 at the airport. Sources told India Today TV there will be an addition of one Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) machine and two standard X-Ray machines. Further, two entry points – Gate 1A and Gate 8B – will be converted for passenger usage.
