CBSE Board Exams 2024: Practical Exams to Begin on Jan 1, Guidelines Issued
As per the guidelines, CBSE has asked schools to ensure that a sufficient number of practical answer books have been received in the school before the scheduled date for the conduct of the practical examination

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) classes 10 and 12 practical examinations are scheduled to take place between January 1 and February 14. The board released a set of guidelines or SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and guidelines for school principals and teachers to follow regarding the CBSE Board Exam 2024 practicals. The guidelines are available on the official website at cbse.gov.in. The board has now released a reminder notice for the schools as well.

As per the guidelines, CBSE has asked schools to ensure that a sufficient number of practical answer books have been received in the school before the scheduled date for the conduct of the practical examination. It also directed schools to inform parents and students of the schedule, format, and any specific requirements for the practical examinations.

“Ensure that the necessary arrangements like infrastructure, equipment, and materials are available in the laboratories for conducting practical exams. Reaffirm that the laboratories or facilities are adequately set up for students to perform their experiments,” the notice stated.

In the notice, CBSE also asked schools to contact the examiners well in time before the exam to ensure smooth and timely conduct of the examination process. It also asked schools to identify students with special needs or disabilities and make necessary arrangements to ensure they can participate in the practical exams comfortably.

All the practical examinations, projects, and internal assessment marks must be uploaded everyday, that is, on the date of assessment. “While uploading the marks, the school, the Internal Examiner, and the External Examiner (as the case may be) shall ensure that correct marks are uploaded. Check maximum marks assigned to practical/Project/Internal Assessment and then award & upload the marks,” CBSE added in the notice.

Furthermore, for class 12, the schools are not authorised to make alternate arrangements for external examiners, CBSE noted. Practical examination can only be conducted by an external examiner appointed by the board. No change in marks is allowed after the finalisation and completion of the process, hence extra care must be taken by the examiners to ensure the marks are uploaded correctly. “In case, it is observed that directions of the Board have not been compiled with by the schools, the Board reserves its right to cancel the Practical examination,” the notice read.
