Bhagyashree stole the show at FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week when she sashayed the runway in colourful Mekhela Chador designed by fashion designer Sanjukta Dutta. The actor spotted her son in the audience who clapped as she took to the runway.
Post the show, Bhagyashree spoke to the media about the importance of promoting handloom weavers. “I am here to promote handloom weavers. India has got traditional artisans that need to be promoted. In today’s time and age, especially after covid they are ones who really need to be sponsored and taken ahead. And we should promote the art for it to stay on longer,” says Bhagyashree.
Bhagyashree further went on to praise the work Sanjukta Dutta does with handloom in the East. “I am very comfortable wearing sarees. This is a beautiful art form and we should take the traditional weaves to modern designs. And as you know the sun rises in the east, so I think fashion begins from the east,” adds Bhagyashree.
Dedicated to the festivals of Diwali and Durga Puja, Sanjukta was inspired by these popular Indian festivals, when she unveiled a medley of Indian motifs and prints. Elated to have Bhagyashree walk for her, Sanjukta says, “I was so happy to showcase my new collection at the Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI, it is an amazing platform to promote the weaves and designs of Assam. It was an ecstatic moment for me to have Bhagyashree walk for me as a showstopper. I have always admired Bhagyashree for her serene elegance and beauty. She looks like an absolute stunner in the Mekhela Chador.”
Another reason why the fashion show was special was because Bhagyashree’s son and actor Abhimanyu Dassani was in the audience. When asked about walking on the ramp, she says, “My son was there in the audience and I was like Oh my god, I hope he doesn’t judge me for walking the ramp with these beautiful girls here. I think he had this broad smile on his face, so it was great to know that my son thought I did great.”
